A couple of weeks ago, we asked how you prefer to eat from a farm you co-own. You responded thoughtfully. Thank you.
Over the past year, we tried to meet the first wave of requests: total customisation. We built a shop you could tweak each week. We shipped fully customised boxes across the country. It felt good to deliver nutrient-dense food from land you co-own directly to your kitchen.
But something wasn’t right.
At our tiny scale; growing as much as we can in-house, honouring the whole animal, staying soil-first - a "pick anything" shop transforms life into logistics. It creates micro-stocks, requires guesswork, and risks waste.
We spend more time staring at screens and less time with the herd and garden beds. If we're honest, it’s begun to resemble every other delivery service. That's not who we are.
A smallholding teaches a different rhythm: cook what the land is giving now. Be flexible, learn the season and celebrate it. Your latest survey told us many of you want exactly that; sovereignty and simplicity over infinite choice.
The shift we’re making
Our aim is to make your membership reflect the authentic experience of life on a smallholding.
We plan to introduce a "Smallholding Box" – a member-only, curated selection that showcases the best of our shared land each cycle. This approach delivers food guided by season, not spreadsheet.
What this would feel like:
- A regular rhythm (weekly or fortnightly).
- The farm’s core foods together: veg, eggs, dairy, meat.
- Occasional forest-garden specials when they’re ready (a tincture, an elixir, a preserve).
- Light preferences, not overwhelm (veg-led / no pork / no offal).
Imagine opening your box to discover a small celebration of the land's current offerings. Perhaps it's leeks, squash and beetroot; a dozen eggs with warmth still lingering; weekend broth bones; a raw-milk cheese; and a jar prepared in our farmhouse kitchen. These items aren't guaranteed every delivery - they simply reflect what's honestly in season.
More than groceries
We want to turn this box into a truly lived experience, not just a delivery.
- Cook the Box (live, 30 mins): a simple midweek session. Join or watch later.
- Skills mini-workshops: broth & stocks; nose-to-tail; fermentation; caring for raw dairy.
- Season notes from the field: what changed in soil, pasture, and herd—and why.
- On-farm mornings: harvest together, hedgerow walks, small butchery demos.
- Kids’ corner: tiny jobs and stories to invite little hands into the work.
“But I still want flexibility…”
We get it, so do we. Alongside the Smallholding Box, we’ll keep building our curated shop of partner farms who meet our standards (no synthetic chemicals, no routine pharmaceuticals, highest welfare, regenerative). It’s there for add-ons and one-offs. Carefully and transparently chosen.
The next 90 days
Over the next 90 days, we’ll tighten stock visibility and packing flows so what you see is what’s truly available. We’ll refine our seasonal recipes, workshops, and delivery so the weekly rhythm feels smooth and human. We’ll vet aligned partner farms and design a simple packaging with a reuse loop to cut waste. Then, in the New Year, we’ll launch our Smallholding Box pilot with 25 members.
This is what we set out to build: member-owned, regenerative, sovereign food that feels human. Less scrolling on screens, more vitality in your food. More time stewarding the land, more connection between us all.
