Snowy Days and New Beginnings

Snowy Days and New Beginnings

Welcome back to another weekly update from My Little Farm! It’s been an eventful week at the farm, with snow transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland. While the snow’s beauty is undeniable, it does make farming and land management a bit more challenging. But as always, the MLF team has been pressing on, ensuring that all the essential work continues regardless of the weather.

Updates from the Farm

Snowy Challenges and Resilience: Despite the heavy snowfall, the team has been cracking on with their tasks. From feeding livestock to managing the land, nothing has held them back. The dedication of the team ensures that everything runs smoothly, no matter what challenges come our way.

Breeding Stock Expansion: With our ambitious plans for expansion this year, we’re increasing our breeding stock. We’re currently preparing additional space to welcome top-quality Black Galloway beef cattle in the coming weeks. Our beautiful black Galloway bull has been separated from the girls after completing his job. He’s now enjoying a well-earned break in his own pen with a single bale all to himself.

New Arrivals in the Vegetable Garden: Additional ducklings have joined us this week. These industrious little helpers are already assisting with slug control in the vegetable garden, proving that every creature plays its part in regenerative farming.

Forest Garden Expansion: Julia has been hard at work designing and planning the expansion of our forest garden. She’s placed orders for a variety of new trees and plants, which will be planted in the coming months. Alongside this, her team is preparing for one of winter’s most dramatic jobs: laying the main hedge that runs the length of our two largest fields. Last year, they made a fantastic start on the first third of this hedge. This year’s goal is to complete the remaining 150 metres. It’s a big undertaking, but Julia and her team are more than up to the task.

Land Acquisition and Partnerships: Progress continues with our various land acquisition pursuits and partnerships. While details remain largely confidential to keep things on track, we’re working hard behind the scenes to align everything with our long-term objectives. We’ll share more as soon as we can.

As always, we’re so grateful for the support of this incredible community. From snowy days on the farm to exciting plans for the year, everything we do is guided by our shared mission of food sovereignty and reconnection. Here’s to another amazing week ahead!
