On My Little Farm, our heritage chickens are raised the way nature intended—on open pasture, foraging freely for seeds, bugs, and wild greens. Unlike industrial broilers that are bred for rapid weight gain and kept in confinement, our chickens grow slowly, move naturally, and develop rich, full-bodied flavour. Their lives are measured in months, not weeks, ensuring strong bones, firm muscle structure, and deeply flavourful meat—the kind of chicken that once graced farmhouse tables before factory farming reshaped the food system. A Life on Pasture Our heritage chickens live outdoors from the start, roaming through grassy fields, orchard edges, and woodland clearings, where they scratch, peck, and dust-bathe throughout the day. Their constant movement improves the land, naturally fertilising the soil while keeping pests in check. Unlike supermarket chickens, which are raised in overcrowded sheds, ours are slow-grown on a natural diet, supplemented only with non-GMO, soy-free feed when needed. Their bodies develop at their own pace, producing meat that is firm, nutrient-dense, and rich in flavour—a far cry from the soft, waterlogged texture of intensively farmed poultry. Life in the Flock The rhythm of our meat chickens follows a slower, more natural cycle: Mornings: Out to the fields, scratching through the earth for bugs, worms, and tender shoots. Midday: Resting in dappled shade, dust-bathing to keep their feathers clean and healthy. Evenings: Moving in groups, following their natural flock instincts, before returning to secure housing at dusk. Throughout Their Lives: They develop strong, lean muscle, the way chickens were always meant to grow. Chickens & Regenerative Farming Our chickens are active contributors to the farm ecosystem. Their scratching and pecking aerate the soil, reducing pests and improving pasture health. Their manure builds fertility, helping to regenerate land that has been depleted by modern farming. Unlike industrial poultry systems that rely on antibiotics and artificial growth stimulants, our chickens thrive through natural movement, diverse diets, and stress-free environments. By allowing them to live full, active lives, we produce meat that is not just better-tasting, but better for the land, the animals, and the people who eat it. These are chickens as they should be—slow-raised, pasture-fed, and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature.
