At My Little Farm, our Oxford Sandy & Black pigs roam freely through woodland pastures, living as pigs should—rooting, foraging, and wallowing in the mud. Unlike intensively farmed pigs that are confined to concrete pens, our pigs are raised in a natural, low-stress environment, where they turn over the soil, clear undergrowth, and fertilise the land, playing an essential role in regenerating the farm’s ecosystems. Their slow, natural growth results in incredibly flavourful, well-marbled pork—a far cry from the lean, industrial pork found in supermarkets today. A Life on Pastures and in the Woodlands Our pigs live in small social groups, moving between open pasture and sheltered woodland, where they feast on a natural diet of roots, acorns, wild greens, and seasonal farm scraps. Their instinctive rooting behavior helps to aerate the soil, cycle nutrients, and prevent the spread of invasive plants—making them an integral part of the farm’s regenerative system. Instead of being pushed to grow quickly on high-protein feeds like soy and corn, our pigs grow at their own pace, developing strong muscle, superior marbling, and deep, old-world flavour. Their Oxford Sandy & Black heritage genetics ensure a balance of lean meat and rich, golden fat, perfect for traditional curing, roasting, and slow-cooked dishes. The Rhythm of the Pigs Our pigs live by the natural cycles of the farm, moving through the landscape in a way that benefits both them and the land: Spring: Foraging fresh new shoots and aerating the soil, preparing it for summer growth. Summer: Lounging in the shade, cooling off in mud wallows, and foraging fallen fruit. Autumn: Feasting on acorns, hazelnuts, and root crops, building up rich fat reserves. Winter: Nesting deep in warm straw bedding, slowing down as the farm enters its winter rhythm. Pigs & Regenerative Farming Beyond their incredible meat, our pigs are key land stewards, helping to:✔️ Improve soil health by naturally tilling compacted ground.✔️ Reduce waste by consuming farm scraps and windfall fruit.✔️ Increase biodiversity by maintaining healthy, diverse woodland pastures.✔️ Enrich the ecosystem through their natural fertilisation of the land. By allowing them to live full, active lives, our pigs improve the health of the farm while producing exceptionally high-quality, nutrient-dense pork. Every step of their journey—from woodland to table—is guided by respect, sustainability, and a commitment to farming in balance with nature.
