This coming week, two of our cows will leave the farm. After being respectfully processed and hung to mature, they will become the first beef ever raised under the My Little Farm name.
We won’t pretend this part of the process is easy. And perhaps it never should be. That feeling. That weight of responsibility. It is part of what keeps us honest, grounded, and committed to doing things differently.
For many of us here, meat is an important part of our diet. But if we’re going to eat it, we believe we have a duty to do it with integrity. That means raising animals the right way. Slowly, naturally and without pharmaceuticals. It means giving them the space to live as they were meant to - on pasture, with minimal interference, just as their ancestors did.
Our Galloway cattle are a rare primitive breed with a long history of thriving in harsh, wild landscapes. Before joining us, they were raised semi-wild on the Yorkshire moors, grazing on rough grasses and soaking up the weather. Last month, we introduced them to the rewilded pasture at Headway, where they now graze alongside our Hebridean sheep in a conservation-led system that honours both the land and the animals.
This is the beginning of a new chapter for My Little Farm. We’re now laying the foundations to expand our herd, acquire more pasture, and continue raising animals in this deeply respectful way. And we’d love to form partnerships with larger landowners looking to restore biodiversity through the careful use of primitive grazing breeds.
If you’re a member who values high-welfare, nutrient-dense, regenerative meat, this is a moment of significance. We'll be sharing more soon about how you can be part of this. But for now, we simply wanted to mark this quiet moment in the journey.
