There’s a lot happening on the farm as spring edges closer, and while we’ll keep this update brief, there’s much to look forward to, and a few challenges to share, too.
Our Galloway cattle, originally scheduled to leave last week, have been postponed to next. Regulations require a vet to be present at departure, and theirs asked us to reschedule. It gives us a few more days with them in the pasture, and we’re using the time to prepare for what still feels like a big moment.
Our seedling nursery is flourishing—trays upon trays of young life, each one a small promise of food to come. In contrast, we’re also dealing with fox attacks, which have sadly impacted around 30% of our flock. Our dogs aren’t fulfilling their role as guardians right now, so we’re exploring other solutions to strengthen our defences.
There’s good news on the horizon though: we’re welcoming a large number of bee hives this April, a vital addition we’re all very excited for.
And starting Saturday 10th May, we’re opening up the farm more regularly with three days a week for member visits, including our new weekly Members Markets every Saturday. We can’t wait to welcome you here more often and bring more of the farm’s rhythms into your lives.
In preparation for this, we’ve now secured a beautiful new entrance to the farm via the woodland to the south. It’s a smooth, tree-lined track with parking, which will make arriving at the farm feel calmer and more welcoming. Even better, we’ve also secured around 4 acres of the surrounding woodland, which will become a new home for our pigs—offering them shelter, shade, and the kind of terrain they love most.
Lastly, this week the whole team came together for a photoshoot—a rare chance to pause, smile, and reflect on how far we’ve come. We’ll be sharing some of those photos soon. The truth is, there are a lot of us now. And together—with you—we’re building something that feels quietly powerful.
